The script for 'Free Guy' was written by Zak Penn, so it's no surprise that the film is literally overflowing with pop culture references.

In it, I noted that there are so many Easter eggs that they warrant a separate article. Here it is. Let's recall the bright cameos, obvious and not-so-obvious references to games, movies, popular universes, and all that.

'Free Guy' — Not a Good Movie, But a Wonderful One

On August 12, the comedy blockbuster 'Free Guy' hits theaters, possibly the main entertainment film of this summer.

Cameos of YouTube and Movie Stars

Throughout the film, famous YouTube streamers Jacksepticeye, Ninja, Pokimane, DanTDM, and LazarBeam appear on screen. They comment on the events happening in the game and the rapid leveling up of the main character named Guy, undoubtedly delighting gamers and their personal fans.

But the list of cameos in 'Free Guy' doesn't end there.

Remember the epic appearance of Channing Tatum in 'The Hateful Eight' by Quentin Tarantino? Here, he made an equally striking cameo, portraying the avatar of one of the coolest Free City players. The actor also poked fun at his popular image from 'Step Up' and performed the Floss dance from Fortnite (where you swing your hips and wave your arms alternately in front and behind you).

Perhaps even more epic was the appearance of Chris Evans, who reacts unmistakably to Guy using Captain America's shield in the final battle. These are the kinds of treats viewers can now expect after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox (now called 20th Century Studios).

However, Russian viewers might have missed the appearance of Hugh Jackman. Just like Dwayne Johnson and John Krasinski, the Australian only lent his voice to one of the characters.

Johnson voiced one of the bank robbers where Guy works, thus repaying Reynolds for his cameo in 'Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw'.

Krasinski voiced one of the gamers commenting on Guy's progress in the game.

Jackman got the player who 'asks too many questions' and gets shot by Jodie Comer's character at the beginning of the film.

In addition to the listed stars, you can spot Tina Fey (the gamer's mom cleaning the apartment during his stream) and the famous US TV host Alex Trebek in the episodes.

Posters

'Free Guy' is full of various posters flashing in the background. The most noticeable is the 'Deadpool' poster hanging in the apartment of the gamer with Channing Tatum's avatar. Besides it, you can spot posters of the animated series 'Rick and Morty', the film 'Avengers: Infinity War', and a drawn poster referencing 'The Iron Giant'.

References to Games

Since 'Free Guy' is primarily a movie about games, there are plenty of references to them.

If the concept of the game Free City resembles GTA, then in vibe it's 100% Fortnite. Therefore, there are several references to the game: the already mentioned Floss, crazy skins, the flying vehicle used by Reynolds and Comer's characters to escape, and the unicorn pickaxe Guy uses in the fight with Dude.

The film also includes references to the following games:

• Portal — portals for teleportation using the weapon from Valve's game are created not only by Guy in the battle with the evil double but also by Jodie Comer's character Millie;
• Half-Life 2 — in the fight with Dude, Guy uses the iconic gravity gun;
• Mega Man — when Guy and Millie try to escape a chase near the end of the film, the legendary Mega-Buster, first appearing in 1987, comes into play;
• Pac-Man — in the real world, in developer Keys' (Joe Keery) room, you can spot a hologram of the blue ghost from one of the most famous games in history;
• GTA Online — the film had a subtle reference to the Oppressor MK II when the main characters discussed that the bike can't fly;
• Halo — several times throughout the film, you can spot the Scorpion tank and the Warthog vehicle.

References to Other Movies and Universes

It's unlikely anyone could miss or not recognize this, but nevertheless — in the battle between Guy and Dude, there were a lightsaber (hello 'Star Wars'), Captain America's shield with a recreated scene with Thanos and corresponding music (hello final 'Avengers'). We already mentioned Chris Evans above.

However, the Easter egg referencing the 'Terminator' universe was a bit harder to spot — at the beginning, when Ryan Reynolds' character checks the balance at an ATM, you can notice a Harvester robot from the film 'Terminator Salvation' in the background.

Surely, these are not all the Easter eggs in the movie 'Free Guy'. For example, some believe that Jodie Comer's character's bow is inspired by McCree's skin from Overwatch, and the company name SOONAMI and its boss's desire to fire one of the lead developers is no coincidence. So, I suggest adding to the list in the comments.
