On the birthday of the Parisian-born actress, we decided to tell why we love Eva Green.

Eva Green is one of the brightest, most beautiful, stylish, original, and interesting actresses of our time. People go to the movies for her. She is filmed by the best directors like Tim Burton and Roman Polanski. So what makes the actress so appealing?

Eva is shy

Despite her outward confidence, the girl is actually quite modest and even shy. From an interview with the actress:

In childhood and youth, I was afraid of everything — new people, circumstances, everything new in general, including smartphones and new computer programs like Skype. At school, I was a perfectionist and an excellent student; I even spent weekends with textbooks to hide from the other, out-of-school life. I was obsessed with controlling everything that happened to me. I tried to please teachers, hated myself for the slightest mistake. I was afraid of not fitting in, afraid of mistakes, afraid of showing my true self. It turned out that behind my insecurity, I could no longer distinguish who I really was. Becoming an actress — for me, it was a rebellion against my insecurity and fears.

Green's profession forces her to often be in the spotlight and makes her a subject of discussion, which also does not bring the girl much joy:

I'm no narcissist; I don't feel very comfortable in the center of attention.

Eva is equally successful in mainstream and auteur cinema

Green, whose surname, by the way, is actually pronounced "Gren" (due to her Swedish father), is skeptical of Hollywood but knows that ignoring the dream factory would be a real miss for someone in her profession. Therefore, she periodically appears in high-profile blockbusters like 300: Rise of an Empire, which, despite scathing reviews, became a global box office hit (grossing over the prestigious $300 million mark), or the fantasy The Golden Compass based on Philip Pullman's novel, who personally thanked Green for her portrayal of Serafina. Also worth mentioning is Ridley Scott's grand epic Kingdom of Heaven or Disney's Dumbo.

At the same time, the actress still prefers to star in auteur and low-budget films, as was the case with the romantic end-of-the-world film Perfect Sense, Roman Polanski's Based on a True Story, or another European drama Cracks.

Eva is the best Bond girl

What is the image of a Bond girl, an indispensable attribute of the famous series? A beautiful dummy, eye candy and nothing more. Green, with her Vesper Lynd, broke this stereotype, delivering a character that not only matched the importance of Agent 007 himself but also made Casino Royale perhaps the best film in the Bond franchise's history. Eva Green herself later shared her thoughts on this:

I was skeptical of "Bond girls." And I never dreamed of this role, neither as a child nor as an adult. I didn't want to be just a sexual object. But when they sent me the script, I liked the role of Vesper Lynd! It turned out to be unexpectedly complex, and the script, surprisingly, was good. That was important because I want to show the audience all my abilities, not just my body.

Eva is the queen of gothic

For quite some time, the main star in this role was Helena Bonham Carter, but times change; the actress increasingly appears in "serious" cinema, almost without makeup, so this niche has confidently passed to Eva Green, whose appearance is practically the standard for the genre today.

Another point in Green's favor on this matter is the fact that she became the muse of Hollywood's main gothic director, Tim Burton, with whom she has already worked on three films: Dark Shadows, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and Dumbo.

And how magnificent she was in The Franklin — you have to see it!

Eva outacted Johnny Depp

Such a statement might not surprise anyone today, but back in 2012, when Johnny Depp was not embroiled in disputes with Amber Heard and his career was near its peak, few could compare to him. In Dark Shadows, Green not only held her own but essentially outacted the more experienced and renowned actor on his own "turf," delivering a hilariously exaggerated portrayal of a cunning blonde witch. It is fitting to quote journalist Oleg Zintsov:

Eva Green creates a storm and stress with and without special effects. She is the main star of Dark Shadows, luxurious, predatory, funny, and unexpected. In this role, there is everything you wanted to know about blondes but were afraid to ask. Plus a broken heart, hard and fragile as porcelain.

Eva doesn't like Hollywood

As is known, the actress herself lives in London and appears in America only for work and does not even plan to move there. Here is what Green says about Hollywood:

I feel drained there. Maybe because of the constant categorization: I'm too dark, too vamp, too French, "too" everything.

Eva enjoys acting in TV series

This can be said definitively: TV series have become a force comparable to cinema and attract more and more top-tier stars. Eva Green is no exception, having starred in projects such as Camelot, Penny Dreadful, and The Luminaries. The best of them, including for the actress herself, was undoubtedly the series Penny Dreadful. It gave viewers one of the most vivid female characters of the past decade and, perhaps, the best role of Eva Green herself.

Eva is seductive

Green is one of those actresses who are not afraid to show their body. And she does it quite often. Not to mention, she began her career with a role in the now-cult film Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers, a kind of hymn to the liberation of the mind from the shackles of public opinion. The master's film was full of sex scenes in which the young girl appeared before the audience indecently naked.

Since then, there have been no such explicit scenes in Eva Green's career, but if a little nudity is needed for a film, the actress will do it without any hesitation.

Eva is mysterious

Her specific appearance, acting style in films, a certain detachment during interviews and photo shoots — all this suggests that Green seems to be from another planet, and partly this is the source of her mysterious appeal.

Eva Green is a stunningly stylish, amazingly subtle actress who knows how to draw your gaze, whether you want it or not. She is an adornment to any film, because it's no wonder many cinephiles often go specifically "for her."
