The new Captain America did not receive a warm welcome from Marvel fans, and with each episode it becomes clear why. What is his main difference from Steve Rogers, and will the hero become a new antagonist?

The whole world watched the new episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and understood exactly why the series is named that way. First, the whole world observed the Flag Smashers making the news, and then the gaze of an entire city and the internet turned to the main city square, where the new Captain America had delivered his justice. Perhaps the final shot of the series with a close-up of the blood-stained shield will forever remain in the memory of fans. And they already disliked John Walker. What's wrong with this character?

First of all, it's worth understanding that there is still a category of fans who are not very familiar with the universe and don't understand what the issue is and why their beloved Steve Rogers was replaced by some random guy. But you and I understand that for the government, Captain America is just a title that they have the right to pass on. And the plot of the entire universe required such a bold move, because people need hope now more than ever.

In the DC universe, hope is Superman; in Marvel, it's Captain America. And this is definitely not a forced move by the studio and Feige, who suddenly wanted to say goodbye to Chris Evans. You're reading this and wondering why I'm explaining such basic things. And I'll tell you: more than half of the fans don't understand this, and they've gone all out on the internet and Twitter to hate on actor Wyatt Russell. He got a lot of flak. Absolute inadequacy of people. But we've dealt with that aspect, so let's move on.

Secondly, the character of John Walker is very ambiguous. Not only is his archetype the complete opposite of Steve Rogers, but the actor himself does an excellent job in his role. You watch an episode, and a feeling of hatred for the character arises within you. And that's cool!

Marvel knows how, when they want to, to show the story of a new hero and reveal him from different angles. Let's go in order.

John Walker is a devoted soldier, serving the USA unquestioningly and for a long time. He knows how to follow orders, doesn't ask unnecessary questions, and, judging by the stories, is quite brave and quick in decision-making in battle. Moreover, he knows how to play to the public, is talkative, and doesn't give in to doubt. Isn't he the ideal candidate for a new symbol?

He is appointed Captain America, but this is just a continuation of his service to the US government. He is handed the shield with the expectation that it is the shield that makes Captain America a hero. But that's not the case. John Walker genuinely doesn't understand why he is not respected, feared, or listened to. People literally spit in his face. Walker was given power, and he calls himself power. And here lies the main difference from Steve Rogers.

He seems to have become the embodiment of everything Steve himself hated:

• The ideal soldier that the government tried to turn him into back in the 1940s
• Follows all orders and smiles for the cameras
• Loves fan attention and gives autographs left and right
• Acts rather than analyzes. He doesn't care about the consequences
• Gives interviews to journalists, prepares his answers in advance
• Steve went against the government when he realized they couldn't ensure people's safety
• Lacks a sense of compassion
• Wants to do the right thing but doesn't know how. He has no moral compass
• Does everything his own way and doesn't listen to others.

In the fourth episode, John Walker went too far and found his true self, not without the help of the serum. It only amplified his not-so-positive qualities. Moreover, he was overwhelmed by the death of his only close friend.

Now the world will be divided into those who consider him a hero. And those who consider the brutal murder merely an extreme measure. But here is his true character — taking offense at losing after a skirmish with the Dora Milaje, making stupid and rash decisions, having an explosive temper and a thirst for revenge. This makes John Walker not just a cruel person, but also a very dangerous player in the Marvel universe. After all, he is now also a super-soldier.

And the chilling image of the bloody shield sealed the fate of fans' love for this hero. How will the world react to the brutal murder? Should we expect a new full-fledged antagonist in movies or other series?
