Why exactly in the fifth episode of “WandaVision” did we see a shocking twist that will forever change the action of the universe and the new phase of the MCU?

The new episode of “WandaVision” has become the creepiest, most epic, and least sitcom-like so far. We were already convinced of the artificiality of everything happening, and now the residents themselves, along with Vision, are beginning to break through Wanda’s illusion.

Reality is no longer a rehearsed play, because neither Vision, nor the children, nor even the neighbor Agatha seem to fully obey Wanda’s will. And the twin children are demonstrating their own abilities. Meanwhile, outside Westview, Jimmy Woo, Darcy, and their new ally Monica are trying to make sense of the chaos. And the team of experts from S.W.O.R.D. is beginning to have doubts about Wanda’s intentions.

Shall We Start Over?

This moment in the episode immediately catches your attention. Agnes asks Wanda if she should “start over” after Vision doesn’t stick to the “script.” It seems that the reality of Westview is crumbling faster than before. And Agnes herself knows and allows herself more than the others.

Aunt Agnes and the Other Children

Another clue to the theory about who neighbor Agnes is. She volunteered to babysit the twins, reminding them that she has a few “tricks up her sleeve.” Combine this with the fact that she was the one who earlier nudged Wanda to have children, and she was the one who didn’t keep an eye on the puppy in this episode, prompting the twins to grow again. And the result is a character who is not as simple as they seem at first glance.

It’s also worth noting that Vision asks in the episode: “Where are the other children?” Because if you recall the second episode, all the moms of the town were gathering to organize a festival and fundraiser specifically for the children. This might be another form of manipulation of Wanda’s mind by outside forces, which put the idea of having children into her head.

Troubling Memories

Besides the funny photos of baby Vision in the credits, we also see Wanda’s growing up. For example, a photo where in the background we see buildings destroyed by war. Interestingly, none of her photos show a connection to her family or her twin brother Pietro.

New Superhero

We already mentioned that in the comics, Monica has her own superpowers. And it’s quite possible that the anomalies Darcy noticed in this episode during the scan are a hint at the origin of a new superhero. Monica didn’t want to continue the investigation, but we will definitely see the consequences of her passing through the energy field and the release using Wanda’s powers soon.

Scarlet Witch

An interesting observation is that Wanda has never been officially called the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel universe, although we as viewers know the character’s name well. Her abilities in previous films didn’t hint at the use of a large amount of magic, but now, in the series, that’s exactly what we’re seeing. It’s quite possible that she will soon be given the official name — Scarlet Witch.

Sokovia Accords

We were reminded of the agreement approved by 117 countries, which set certain boundaries and rules for the Avengers. This happened back in the film “Captain America: Civil War.” And the agreement was adopted precisely after Wanda lost control of her abilities and acted carelessly.

Vision — a Corpse

So, Vision is indeed a reanimated corpse. This made it even creepier. We learned that Wanda stole his body from the lab and endowed it with a personality, some limited memory, and new powers. And in the previous episode, we saw what Vision actually looks like. But at the same time, Wanda cannot fully control him, so the very essence of Vision is still in question.

Parents

For the first time, we learn the names of Wanda’s parents: Iryna and Oleg Maximoff. And we remind you of our theory that the actors in the commercials are her parents.

Sparky

An almost completely canonical dog from the comics, who officially appeared in the MCU. Except he’s not green, but his fate in the series turned out to be sad.

Twins

The magical children not only can age at will, but also know about Wanda’s powers and her control over all of reality. It’s unclear who these children are. Are they an artificial projection of Wanda’s desires? Are they real children, but created within the illusion? And will these children disappear if the magical shield around Westview is removed?

Throughout almost the entire episode, the twins are dressed in red and green. This is also a nice reference to the comics, where each child had their own color.

Fantastic Four

Monica mentions that she knows an “aerospace engineer” who can help. Can we, based on other clues, assume that this is Reed Richards? And are they thus introducing the Fantastic Four into the universe? For now, we can only guess.

The Arrival of the Internet

A small moment from Vision’s office, where we saw the arrival of the internet and the receipt of the first emails. It’s funny that despite all the chaos around, decades are still passing inside this sitcom and such cute details appear.

Vision — Savior of Westview?

Perhaps Vision no longer possesses the Mind Stone, but he can still influence the minds of other people. We see him breaking Wanda’s illusion or magic, freeing his coworker from unbearable torment. At the same time, he raises even more questions about why Wanda is holding all the people hostage and causing them pain.

Just Like Old Times

A powerful moment in this episode was when Wanda stepped outside the town, her clothes changed to the costume from the recent Avengers films, and her powers became even more astonishing. After the threats, she changed something in the energy field — we’ll learn the possible consequences in future episodes.

This time, Wanda’s powers were literally called magic or spells.

Subtle X-Men Reference

The tense scene between Wanda and the S.W.O.R.D. agents is very, very similar to, or even inspired by, a scene from the first “X-Men” film, where the police try to confront Magneto. Like Wanda, he uses his power on the weapons, forcing them to aim at the police themselves. And also, don’t forget that in some comic book storylines, Magneto is the father of Wanda and Pietro.

New Commercial

Lagos brand paper towels will fix “the mess you didn’t want to clean up.” This is the most direct reference to Wanda’s actions during the Civil War, where she accidentally blew up a building in Lagos.

A new theory that unites all the commercials into one is that they are a reference to the Infinity Stones. The toaster — the Power Stone, the watch — the Time Stone, the Tesseract-shaped soap — the Space Stone, and now the strange spilled liquid with the towel — the Reality Stone. The Soul and Mind Stones remain — meaning two more commercials are coming.

“Your Mom Won’t Let Him Go Far”

The mailman with the creepy line reminds us again that Wanda doesn’t let anyone go far and controls everything completely.

“We Can’t Reverse Death”

A somewhat hypocritical explanation from Wanda regarding why she can’t resurrect the puppy Sparky for the twins. Of course, from an educational standpoint, the speech was excellent. But Wanda herself revived or brought back to some semblance of life Vision, which seems strange.

Who Is the Villain?

It’s important to note that Wanda, as it turns out, doesn’t know who is controlling the ENTIRE town. And she doesn’t remember how it all started. This confirms theories that Wanda is not the only one holding power over Westview.

Pietro or Peter?

But what if… it’s not Pietro at all? We’ve already been hinted that Wanda did a recast, which means it’s not just a replacement of actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson. It’s a clever use of Evan Peters as Quicksilver from the X-Men universe by the creators of “WandaVision.” This way, they create intrigue and confuse the viewer. Once again. Moreover, Quicksilver from X-Men was named Peter, not Pietro, so it’s definitely not him — to quell all the fan outcry about the actor replacement.

According to a theory that has been circulating online for a while, we are expecting the appearance of Mephisto or Nightmare as the key villain of the series. And perhaps, just perhaps, Evan Peters is playing exactly that. Furthermore, the appearance of “Pietro” and his behavior are a bit unsettling. He comes off as a bad boy with phrases like “Who’s the daddy,” a kind of relative acting awkwardly.

Wanda is rewriting the universe, which means it will affect all future projects, especially “Spider-Man 3” and “Doctor Strange 2.”
