These projects are worthy of your attention and time, as they compensate for it with genuine emotions and will tear you away from everyday routine for a few hours.

Spain

The Head

Spanish television has been developing by leaps and bounds in recent years and has gained recognition worldwide (thanks to "Money Heist" and "Elite"). Another worthy representative of the sunny country is the project "The Head."

At the center of the plot is an international group of 10 polar explorers conducting research crucial for humanity. Suddenly, they lose contact with the outside world, and when another group arrives at the station six months later, they find piles of corpses and the sole survivor of the previous expedition.

The series "The Head" works both as a airtight thriller (Antarctica all around, nowhere to run!) and as a story from an unreliable narrator (the viewer doesn't always know when to trust the survivor's words and when not to). The narrative, unfolding in two time periods, keeps you on edge until the very final credits. The ending may disappoint some, but the overall viewing process will definitely be engaging.

Belgium

Into the Night

Belgium managed to delight with an engaging series this year, whose project "Into the Night" debuted on the Netflix platform and garnered a lot of positive reviews.

"Into the Night" tells the story of the beginning of a global apocalypse, in which a group of random passengers from different countries find themselves on board an airplane. Their main task and only chance for survival is to constantly fly away from the Sun. 

The series captures attention thanks to its dynamic narrative, not-so-obvious plot twists, and a great atmosphere of general madness and hopelessness.

United Kingdom

Staged

The best thing that could have happened to us during the pandemic is a series with Michael Sheen and David Tennant. And the birthplace of this project, of course, was the United Kingdom!

Famous actors and friends David and Michael are preparing for a new production under unusual conditions, namely communicating via video call. What can you do when a self-isolation regime is declared.

Signature and colorful British humor, the insane chemistry between the two actors, which originated back on the set of "Good Omens," a witty script resulting in sparkling dialogues, the unexpected appearance of Samuel L. Jackson — the merits of this mini-series can be listed for a very long time, but it's better to see for yourself.

Freud

The joint project of Austrian and German filmmakers did not become an international sensation, but that does not negate the fact that the series "Freud" turned out to be at least very intriguing.

The main character of the Netflix series is a young Sigmund Freud, who has not yet become a world-renowned scientist but is already an extraordinary personality. By a twist of fate, he becomes involved in the investigation of a mysterious series of murders. 

The series "Freud" turned out to be controversial for a number of reasons: from the unexpected portrayal of an outstanding historical figure to ambiguous scenes that will scare off faint-hearted viewers. At the same time, it is a very solid detective story with a modern presentation but great reverence for the depicted era. And it also stars the wonderful Ella Rumpf, who somewhat distantly resembles Eva Green herself.

Poland

The Woods (W głębi lasu)

The Poles are quite good at detective stories, as shown by the series "The Woods," an adaptation of a novel by the recognized master of the genre Harlan Coben.

In a summer camp in 1994, mysterious events occur, leading to the deaths of 2 teenagers and the disappearance of 2 more kids. 25 years later, new evidence emerges in the case, giving hope that the missing sister of prosecutor Kopinski may still be alive. 

A constant sense of understatement, switching between past events and the current investigation, a charismatic main character — this and much more can be found in this solid Polish detective story.
