
‘Major Grom: Plague Doctor’ hits theaters nationwide on April 8, 2021.
At the online Comic Con Russia 2020 convention, one of the central panels was dedicated to the domestic blockbuster ‘Major Grom: Plague Doctor’. The film’s creators answered audience questions, shared insights into the filmmaking process, and presented an exclusive trailer.
Russia’s First Comic Book Movie
Directed by Oleg Trofim (‘Ice’), the film will be the first Russian movie based on a domestic comic from Bubble Comics. The world’s most popular genre still faces certain challenges in the Russian context. Almost all previous projects in this vein were either of very low quality across the board (‘Guardians’), suffered from weak graphics (‘Black Lightning’), or resembled amateur productions (‘SuperBobrovy’).
‘Major Grom: Plague Doctor’ is a serious attempt to make superhero cinema in Russia, and moreover, based on a Russian comic.

What’s New at Comic Con Russia 2020
The ‘Major Grom’ universe received extensive coverage at Comic Con. New comics were showcased, including those by Dalibor Talajić, the website Plague Doctor was announced, and new toys based on the film were revealed:
