We recall and discuss what we saw in the second episode of the horror series 'Lovecraft Country'.

If the first episode of the show 'Lovecraft Country' still somewhat followed the rules of narrative and told a fairly understandable story with a social subtext and a hint of old-fashioned horror films, the second episode went against common sense. It is now absolutely unclear what is happening in the series and why. But watching it is quite entertaining. Let's take a look at what we managed to see.

Nothing is as it seems

From the very first frames of the episode, where Uncle George dances in a robe and Letitia tries on dozens of outfits (and just the day before they encountered bloodthirsty monsters), it seems to hint that what follows will be an absurd comedy... or a sinister horror... or a mystical thriller. No, in fact, the first frames clarify nothing, but immediately make it clear that we will have to watch something extremely incomprehensible.

It turns out that only Atticus remembers the previous evening, while his companions are in blissful ignorance.

Gradually, the characters get acquainted with the Braithwaite mansion, where they have been given shelter. They meet William, a strange 'friend', not a butler, not a manager, but a blond who handles all important matters. He tells the guests about the history of the mansion and that its founder, Titus, was the head of some cult.

This would be the time for the heroes to flee far away, but they cannot: George and Leti's erased memory prevents them from fully believing Tic, and his evidence of what happened does not convince them.

After a strange breakfast with the whole company, they set off to a nearby town to find out something useful and possibly find Tic's father. The heroes find a building that looks like a prison and assume that Montrose might be imprisoned there.

Having learned nothing, Atticus, George, and Leti try to return to the mansion, but again encounter monsters. This time, there is no bloodshed, as Christina Braithwaite comes to the rescue of the unlucky travelers.

Upon returning, Atticus meets Christina's father, catching him during a strange operation (as it later turns out, he will give a piece of himself to the cult members).

At the same time, George finds a secret room, and in it, the book 'Order of the Ancient Dawn', which he carefully studies.

Then, in the episode, a series of amazing scenes followed:

• Tic, in a conversation with Christina, suggests that Leti and George's memory was erased by spells. She confirms this, saying it was to protect their 'pets', and removes the spells;
• Christina goes to the city, where she delivers a cow, but instead of a calf, a new monster is born;
• Leti confesses to Tic how difficult her childhood was, and then kisses him;
• The previous scene turns out to be a deception, and the real Tic encounters a military girl from his Korean past;
• George, in his room, encounters his old love.

All this turns out to be just part of the Order's entertainment, whose members watch the rooms through some portals.

Later it turns out (remember that George was studying the book?) that Atticus is a direct descendant of Titus Braithwaite, and therefore a full member of the Order. Taking advantage of this circumstance, Tic tries to order the cult to return his father. But it doesn't work.

They do find Montrose and try to escape together, but an invisible barrier blocks their path. This scene turned out to be particularly effective, as Marilyn Manson's music played in the background at that moment.

Christina's father shoots Leti, then George. But the most interesting thing is that the current head of the so-called Sons of Adam offers Tic to choose which of his loved ones will not die.

According to the terms of the deal, Tic, as a descendant of Titus, must help the deranged head of the Order open the Garden of Eden and obtain eternal life.

Immediately before the ritual, as strange as everything happening in the series 'Lovecraft Country', Tic sees that Leti has come back to life (with no trace of a wound, by the way). The 'procedure' itself takes place under a poem with the sonorous title 'White on the Moon'.

For not entirely clear reasons, the ritual leads to the collapse of the mansion, but instead of a happy ending with an escape from the sinister place, the heroes are forced to mourn the death of Uncle George.
