Harrison Ford celebrates his 78th birthday, and we recall his amazing feats and various achievements in cinema and beyond.

They say a talented person is talented in everything. That's a rather debatable statement, especially if you take the literal meaning of the word "everything" – but we're not here to nitpick words, but to recall how versatile and multifaceted the wonderful actor named Harrison Ford is, even beyond the movie screen.

Carpenter

His talent for carpentry played into Ford's hands and truly proved fateful for him. After all, if the young man hadn't been so professional with a saw and a hatchet, he wouldn't have been called in to do a very interesting and complex project with a false floor for one of the production designers, which coincided with auditions for the film Star Wars. As it was, Harrison's business flourished; he managed to do everything from building cabinets to participating in a tour with the band The Doors. Had he decided to stay in the business, there would have been one more handy worker in Hollywood.

Stuntman

It seems that if Ford weren't held back hand and foot, he would even jump into lava like a toy soldier – the actor has earned a loud reputation as a star who performs the maximum number of stunts himself. Maybe that's why, when Spielberg is asked about a possible reboot of the Indiana Jones films with a different actor, he invariably refuses and says he sees only Ford in the role?

Pilot

Much has been said about Ford's love for airplanes, helicopters, and any kind of aircraft. Regardless of age and health, Harrison is always ready to jump into the pilot's seat, earning a reputation as quite a daredevil. But the actor particularly distinguished himself in 2000 when he evacuated and thereby saved the life of a twenty-year-old tourist, Sarah George, who was in distress on Table Mountain.

Philanthropist

Harrison genuinely cares about environmental issues, so he not only invests in fighting pollution but also serves as chairman of the Conservation International foundation and even waxes his chest hair on camera for videos advocating against deforestation. A couple of species of ants and spiders have been named after the actor, and a species of butterfly from Tanzania was named after his daughter Georgia.

During the filming of Star Wars, he would change his lines himself, loudly asserting right to Lucas's face that no normal person could say what he had written. He was practically expelled from Indonesia when, during an interview with a minister, Harrison started pressing him with questions about illegal logging. But the most interesting argument Ford has had has been going on for many, many years between him and Ridley Scott – is Rick Deckard human or a replicant? While the director clearly leans toward Deckard being a replicant, the actor stubbornly insists that he played the character as a human, and that you can't take away from the audience the only central character in the film with whom they can identify. On the set of Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve teased them both, saying that sometimes it was simply impossible to be in the same room with them.
