New faces in the cast, premiere date, and other facts about the film Venom 2.

Despite the not-so-outstanding debut film about the adventures of Spider-Man's popular enemy Venom, it managed to become a starting point for a new promising Spider-Man cinematic universe that is yet to be built.

Venom 2 was announced almost immediately after the impressive box office success of the film starring Tom Hardy. There's still about a year left before the project's release, but quite a lot is already known about it. From this article, you will learn the exact premiere date of the sequel, the star additions to the cast, and various rumors surrounding the upcoming blockbuster.

When Will Venom 2 Be Released

To avoid keeping the audience waiting too long, Sony Pictures released a modest teaser revealing the original title of the sequel — Venom: Let There Be Carnage — and the premiere date of the comic book movie. Unless something extraordinary happens (we won't make predictions), Venom 2 will be released in Russian theaters on June 24, 2021. Initially, a fall 2020 premiere was planned, but the well-known illness interfered with the plans of Hollywood executives.

Who Is Directing Venom 2

Even the original's box office success did not allow Ruben Fleischer to keep the director's chair. His place in the sequel was taken by Andy Serkis, an outstanding actor and... a rather controversial director.

Serkis the director has only two projects under his belt — the melodrama Breathe and the film adaptation of Mowgli, which fell into the shadow of Disney's film. Based on these works, it's hard to form an impression of the Briton's skills behind the camera, but he certainly doesn't lack courage and ambition, and he definitely has a colossal amount of experience working on blockbusters.

The script for the second Venom will be written by Kelly Marcel, who worked on both the original and the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. And here, no additional biting comments are even needed.

What Will the Plot of Venom 2 Be About

It is interesting that the second part of Tom Hardy's character and the symbiote's adventures was supposed to be preceded by the film Morbius, where the ageless Jared Leto plays the famous comic book vampire. And along with the postponement of the vampire film, Sony also moved Venom 2. Whether this means that Morbius will reveal some details of the developing cinematic universe directly related to the Venom character is still unknown, but the fact remains — we will see the film with Leto in the spring of next year, and with Hardy in the summer.

The plot of the sequel, regardless of the potential connection with Morbius, will focus on Eddie Brock (Hardy) and his encounter with another symbiote named Carnage. The new hero was already shown to us in the post-credits scene of the original, so we know that the role of the insane character named Cletus Kasady/Carnage will be played by Woody Harrelson.

Another new face in the series will be Naomie Harris, who is expected to portray the character named Shriek (essentially, she is the insane other half of Carnage).

The authors will clearly not forget about the relationship between the characters of Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams. The actress has already confirmed her participation in the sequel in one of her interviews. Perhaps the union, known in the West as She-Venom, will get enough screen time in the second part to satisfy fan demands.

What Surprises to Expect from the Second Venom

No, an R rating is not expected even in the second part of the comic book blockbuster. Yes, even considering the appearance of Carnage, who, as comic book fans know, loves to leave a bright bloody trail behind. So what can Venom 2 surprise us with?

Firstly, we will probably be shown connections to other projects in the Sony cinematic universe. Perhaps it won't be the aforementioned Morbius. Peter Parker will definitely not drop by (let's be honest, it's still too early to pit them against each other). But we can expect someone from the Sinister Six, for example. We might also see some newcomers who haven't yet debuted in the franchise, like Silver Sable or Black Cat. One way or another, the expansion of this cinematic universe's boundaries should likely happen in the second Venom.

Secondly, the change of director will clearly affect the overall mood of the film. Yes, Andy Serkis is excellent in a variety of roles, including comedic ones, but something tells me he sees himself as a director of more serious and intellectual films than Fleischer. Whether this is true or not, we will find out after the release of Venom 2.
