The universe of the sci-fi film 'Upgrade' will expand with a sequel in the form of a series.

The once-sensational technological thriller Upgrade (2018) from director Leigh Whannell will receive a sequel in the form of a television series. The project will be overseen by Blumhouse and UCP.

Leigh Whannell Remains Director

According to Deadline, the director of the series will be original director Leigh Whannell, known for his work on the Saw and Insidious franchises, as well as this year's thriller The Invisible Man.

The showrunner of the project will be Tim Walsh, and the script for the television version of Upgrade will be written by Crystal Ziv Hotel and James Roland, who previously worked on season 2 of the series The Purge.

What Plot Will the Series 'Upgrade' Have?

With the release of the new project, the expansion of the Upgrade universe is expected. The plot will unfold several years after the events of the original film. The experimental implant Stem, which restored mobility to Logan Marshall-Green's character after an accident, will get an upgraded version, and its owner will be a new character.

Insiders say that the new story will involve the government, which plans to use Stem to suppress criminal activity.
