You probably didn't know these 5 little-known sequels to popular and beloved films of the past. Spoiler: you're extremely lucky.

Many successful films get sequels, and there is absolutely nothing surprising about that. The other thing is when sequels to acclaimed films appear without much fanfare, and almost no one talks about them.

Sequel to 'The Big Lebowski' — 'The Jesus Rolls' (2019)

No one will argue with the cult status of the Coen brothers' film, which gave the world the image of The Dude and other vivid characters. Among the array of supporting characters, the flamboyant bowling master Jesus, played by John Turturro, stood out especially. 

The unexpected sequel to the film was released in 2019, and its main character is Jesus, who has just gotten out of prison. According to the plot, Turturro's character, along with his bosom buddy (Bobby Cannavale), continues his criminal activities, namely car theft, and along the way meets a variety of quirky women.

The world could have definitely done without such a sequel-spin-off, but if someone is fond of Jesus, you can spend an extra 90 minutes in the company of your idol.

Sequel to 'Wild Things' — 'Wild Things 2' (2004)

The plot of John McNaughton's adventurous and unpredictable thriller with the amazing trio Dillon-Campbell-Richards hardly suggested a continuation, at least not in the form it appeared in 2004.

By and large, this creation has only an indirect relation to the original film and is more of a parody of it for teenagers than a worthy successor. But that's only half the trouble; if the second 'Wild Things' still attempted to craft a more or less coherent plot, then in the third and, God forgive me, the fourth installment, only group sex scenes remained from the original. 

Sequel to 'American Psycho' — 'American Psycho II: All American Girl' (2002)

Mary Harron's cult work was quoted extensively and became one of the most striking films of the 21st century. The character of the infernal Christian Bale, Patrick Bateman, was simultaneously elegant and insane, brilliant and sophisticated. And after the original ended, you might wonder what awaits such a person? The answer can be found in a completely unnecessary sequel, where the main role was played by the then-unknown Mila Kunis.

As you can understand from the title, the central figure in this story is an ambitious girl whose idol is that very Bateman. At the same time, she dreams of becoming an FBI agent and, for the sake of her goal, does not shy away from various methods of eliminating competitors.

Sequel to 'Showgirls' — 'Showgirls 2: Penny's from Heaven' (2011)

Sometimes films are so bad that it's even good. Perhaps the biggest failure in Paul Verhoeven's career, 'Showgirls' buried the career of Elizabeth Berkley, became the object of scathing attacks from Western film critics, and despite this, achieved cult status. 

The very idea of a sequel to such a film seems insane, as does the fact that such a film actually exists! It was released 16 years after the original's debut, but neither Berkley on screen nor Verhoeven behind the camera were present this time. And the 'magic' did not happen either. Rena Riffel, who wrote the story, directed it, and played the lead role, produced an absolutely mediocre and forgettable film.

Prequel to 'Carlito's Way' — 'Carlito's Way: Rise to Power' (2005)

Al Pacino made a name for himself playing roles in gangster cinema, and he demonstrated one of his most memorable characters in Brian De Palma's film 'Carlito's Way'. Now imagine Jay Hernandez in Pacino's place, add rapper P. Diddy to the frame, hand the film over to a little-known director whose name means nothing to you, and you get a prequel to De Palma's work.

'Carlito's Way: Rise to Power', which concludes our list of 5 little-known sequels to cult films, is not only devoid of Al Pacino's charisma and charm but also lacks a coherent script, interesting characters, and original directorial moves. Alas, the authors of this project completely failed to expand or add anything to the original story.
