Disney is preparing a live-action remake of the animated film Hercules. Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) are attached to the project.

Disney is planning another live-action reimagining of its animated classics. This time, it's a remake of Hercules, the classic 1997 animated film.

Mixed Success of the Original

Although Hercules grossed less at the box office than other Disney hits, it was still considered a success with both general audiences and critics. Over time, the film's reputation and public affection only grew. Many still love the song "Zero to Hero" and fondly remember the satire of Phil, voiced by Danny DeVito.

The Wave of Remakes Continues

Disney has already created new live-action versions of its classic hits, such as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Dumbo, and The Lion King. Since the experiment has resonated strongly with global audiences, there is no financial reason to stop. Already this year, Mulan is hitting theaters, and now it's Hercules' turn. Disney's library is quite rich, so this is unlikely to be the last in this wave of remakes.

Russo Brothers as Producers

The Russo brothers, who have been prolific in working on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (also owned by the Mouse House), are attached as producers for the remake. However, they will limit themselves to this role, though they have mentioned being fans of the original animated film.

It is already known that the screenplay will be written by Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984, The Expendables). Given his experience with major blockbusters, we can expect Hercules to be filled with action and exciting adventures. However, this may also mean that the musical numbers from the original may not find a place in the live-action reboot (similar to Mulan). Either way, we'll keep an eye on the news.
