I owe you a post about my May vacation in Italy, making up for it.

We traveled around Italy by car, rented through Centauro, they gave us a Toyota C-HR, only positive impressions from the rental, I can recommend it.
Driving culture in Italian villages - like, at least in Piedmont and Tuscany.
We often used toll roads, never understood their pricing, but we paid around 5-13 euros for different stretches (and about 13 euros we paid both for stretches of 170 km and for stretches of 80-100 km).

You can pay both by card and cash, everything is super convenient and clear, the main thing is to get into the right lane (so as not to end up paying with a transponder that you don't have, but a lot is written about this in detailed reports on forums). Signs and navigation are ultra-clear, you'll definitely figure it out.

The roads are mostly good, especially the toll ones. The speed limit on the roads remained a mystery: somewhere with a 30 sign, lively Italian grandmothers drove all 70, on toll highways with a permitted 130 they drove from 150 and above, and somewhere they followed the signs literally, and this despite the fact that there are cameras almost everywhere. We followed the locals and now hope that we won't get fines 🫶

I was especially pleased that in most small tourist towns there are parking zones (both paid and free), always within a reasonable walking distance from the city center, no risk of running into a ZTL zone (before traveling to Italy by car, be sure to study what that is). If parking is paid, it costs absolutely reasonable money. If there is not enough organized parking, everyone just parks along the roadside (this was the case in Barolo and Barbaresco) and most importantly, Italians don't rush to tow cars because everyone understands that there is little space, but people need to park.
During the entire trip, we drove almost 1400 km by car and overall, it was not stressful, but almost relaxing.

Rental of the "swallow" with full insurance cost 615 euros for 9 days + gasoline 140 euros (we hit peak gasoline prices at 2 euros per liter).
