Rus at the twilight of the pagan era, the steppe, blood, mud, and a road along which people walk together who are not meant to trust each other. "The Scythian" is good because it does not try to be academic historical cinema: it is a fierce, almost mythological fantasy with a taste of ancient epic, where barbaric energy is more important than museum accuracy.
