The number of people infected with the dangerous Ebola virus has exceeded one thousand. The first patient has been identified in Israel.

The Ebola virus is highly pathogenic and contagious through direct contact, but is not transmitted by airborne droplets.

Infection occurs only through biological fluids (blood, saliva, sweat, vomit, semen) of a sick or deceased person.

Danger: The virus belongs to the 4th (maximum) level of biological hazard.

Lethality: It causes severe hemorrhagic fever with a human mortality rate of 50% to 90% (depending on the strain and quality of therapy).

Primary targets: The virus selectively attacks immune system cells: monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.

Current outbreak statistics

According to official data from the CDC, as of June 2026, the situation is as follows:
* Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC): more than 1,000 confirmed cases and over 250 deaths have been recorded. The epicenter is the northeastern province of Ituri. This outbreak is recognized as the second largest in the country's history.
* Uganda: currently, 20 confirmed cases and 2 deaths.

For Russia, the risk is minimal. There is no direct passenger air service with the DRC. This summer, it is not advisable to plan a vacation in the Congo.
