The film was shot in the small towns of Bastrop and Elgin in Texas and reached audiences through an extremely difficult path. It was first shown at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2006, but was released in US theaters only in October 2013 — a full seven years later — due to ongoing distribution rights issues. In the film, Amber Heard plays the main character Mandy Lane at the beginning of her career, when she was still a relatively new figure in Hollywood. The story follows a beautiful and seemingly unattainable high school girl who is invited to a weekend party at a ranch, where events take a dark and violent turn. Later, director Jonathan Levine directed Warm Bodies — another genre film. The soundtrack includes notable tracks such as "Our Lips Are Sealed" by the Go-Go's and a cover of "Sister Golden Hair" performed by Juliette Commagere. The first DVD release of the film came out on December 3, 2013, shortly after its theatrical run.
