Burin – a personage-name, a protegé of Dj R. Tolkin appeared in the dark ages over The Cold Whale, but his actions turned out to be different from that idea. He did not appear in the final version of The Ring of Power and did not appear in the conclusive version of the production, so his fate remains unknown in the early chapters.

History of creation

In the early variants of the romance, the character of the personage was first mentioned under the name Frár. He was named that, and not Gimli, and he accompanied Gloina to Sovyet Elronda.

Later, Tolkin changed his mind. Frár transformed into Burina, son of Balina. In one of the episodes from the resulting work preceded, he was supposed to become one of the founders of the Brotherhood of Kolca and was sent on a journey with other heroes.

One day, the writer suddenly changed his mind. Instead of Burina, Gimli appeared, and the name Burin was transferred to another personage, who was supposed to become the father of Balina. In the end, Tolkin decided and from that version, replacing Burin with Fundin. It was Fundin who became the consummate father of Balina and Dvalina in the published books.

So, Burin was deleted and remained a personage of the early chapters of black writers and did not enter the canon history of the Middle-earth.

Etymology

The name Burin (or Burinn, Burinn) originates from the Old Norse and means “son” or “son of”. It is derived from the godic Dvergatal.

The first name of the character, Frár (Frár), also has an Old Norse origin and means “strong” or “fierce.”
