I am about to explode why I think the window system on Mac is the worst in the world of interfaces. I had two monitors and a laptop, and I used them for three years on Mac and Windows, and now I am ready to talk about it all.
In general, the MacOS system consists of millions of properly designed and thought-out things, but absolutely not logical, and the developers did such a poor job of specialists apple resolved. It's hard to come up with anything better. You know how users say - "Oh, it's just not possible to open a program by simply clicking and closing it (this is a personal test - he just doesn't accept it)." I started to write a page about Mac in general, but the system is so bad that it's already on a separate page, so I will leave that for later.
The system is one - you are trying to watch a 15-minute video on YouTube, but you have to understand how it works. I am talking only about the basic alt+tab, but the rest of the critical system is even worse.
For starters, programs and windows are different things. If you open two Excel, then it's one program and two windows. They have different management. For example, command+tab switches only between programs, but does not switch between windows. And more often, normal window management of windows is not - they are all over the place and you can't see them. When you press alt+tab, a strip appears with all programs, but there is no window.
Windows switch between programs via command + ~. You can customize it (why not), but even then it requires the ability to recognize the difference between programs and windows.
In Mac, windows are only grouped if you collapse them, all minimized windows are grouped in the right part of the screen, and all programs in the left part. Why is this? This is a new concept, a minimized window is no longer switched via command + ~, for starters you need to expand it (You must remember to click which window is minimized, which programs are just somewhere behind an active window).
Complicated? We only have three components in the middle - you, the window, and the program. And there are full-screen regimes, which are not programs and not windows.
Full-screen regime is a window that opens in the entire screen and does not switch through command + tab (if you have other drug windows of programs), not through command + ~, but only through multitask or through special windows with tabs. With this, the concept of full-screen regime merges with windows in full-screen regime and falls, switching full-screen regime and transferring it into the composition of window management in the lower part of the screen.
You can imagine that the system is flexible and adds the ability to manage individual windows, but no - if you have, say, a browser and you want to switch between tabs, you open the browser, and through command + tab you switch to another program, but no, it opens all windows and this is not good, because you will accidentally close all windows, or accidentally collapse them (They don't switch through command + ~). So how to close only one window through a hotkey without closing all other windows of all programs.
Why not make it easy? After all, MacOS creators tried to create a product, and Windows and Linux did it right, and they chose the pain, which they attached to their users.
