Over the weekend, we went to see "Anyuta" at the Mariinsky. The ballet is new but already famous. I've heard and read a lot of rave reviews about it.

My opinion: quite good. The plot of Chekhov's "Anna on the Neck" is preserved, the spirit of the time is conveyed, and the costumes (thankfully!) match the era. Colorful, bright. The intertwining of ballet steps with elements of acting is intriguing.

Can this ballet stand alongside "Swan Lake" or, say, "Romeo and Juliet"? In my opinion, no. But perhaps that was not the goal of the creators.
Is "Anyuta" worth watching? Definitely — yes. To form your own opinion and just to stay informed. Besides, the very fact of being on the historic stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is always a celebration in itself 🥂
