The outbreak of Andes hantavirus on the cruise ship MV Hondius has ended, with 13 confirmed cases, 3 of which were fatal.

The last person who had contact with the infected completed quarantine and tested negative; no new cases have been reported since May 25. WHO continues research to improve diagnostics and develop vaccines, despite the outbreak being over.

The forecast based on analysis of the first published genomes proved accurate: this is a local outbreak, not a pandemic.
