"Hell of a Summer" (2023, USA, Canada)

"Friday the 13th" and "Scream" will not leave filmmakers alone, even if producers stop milking these cult franchises. Actually, "Hell of a Summer" with Finn Wolfhard is an example of another round of exploitation of famous horror films.

Honestly, it felt strange. On one hand, it's not all bad. Black humor, comedic situations, and the dumbest actions of teenagers provide enough reasons to laugh at an ordinary teen slasher. The music also seems stylized as retro, which is cool.
On the other hand, there's a lingering feeling that the story could have been made much more interesting, or at least the characters could have been less clichéd. I have questions about Wolfhard: does he plan to keep using the image he created in "Stranger Things"?
But he is also co-director and co-writer here, so the complaints are slightly softened. Essentially, this is his feature debut.

In any case, every generation needs its own "Friday the 13th." In this context, the film can be liked overall. By the way, the film is from NEON.
