To publish an app on Google Play, you need to upload a separate icon for the app's store listing. This is not the same icon used in the Android app itself (launcher icon).

Main Google Play requirements:

  • Size — 512 × 512 pixels
  • Format — 32-bit PNG
  • Color space — sRGB
  • Maximum file size — 1024 KB (1 MB)

Should I make rounded corners?

No. It's better to upload a simple square image. Google will add shadows and rounded corners itself. If you do it yourself, it won't override Google's actions and may look ugly. Therefore, it's also best not to place elements too close to the edges — they might be cropped.

Can I use a transparent background?

No. The icon must have a full background. Although PNG supports transparency, for Google Play icons it is recommended to use a filled background without transparent areas.

What should not be placed on the icon?

  • labels like "#1", "Best", "Top";
  • discount or promotion badges;
  • price tags;
  • Google Play interface elements;
  • any images that mislead the user.
