⌚️ Zirconia Watch Case — Printed What Cannot Be Machined or Cast
 
A designer watch manufacturer approached us: they needed a case for a limited series. Asymmetric lines, recesses, perforation — a shape that would be time-consuming and expensive to mill, and simply impossible to replicate by casting. Plus tight tolerances for the movement, crystal, bezel, and strap. We printed the case from our own 3YSZ zirconia 💎
 
Why zirconia:
🔹 Hardness 8.5 on the Mohs scale — the case does not pick up scratches during daily wear;
🔹 Flexural strength at least 800 MPa with low weight;
🔹 Biocompatibility and hypoallergenicity — contact with skin around the clock without consequences;
🔹 Noble white color with a pearlescent sheen, coloring without loss of properties;
🔹 Heat resistance and corrosion resistance — neither sweat, nor water, nor household chemicals are a problem.
 
How it is printed 🧪
✅ SLA printing on the "Proceramika-170" printer, UV laser 355 nm;
✅ Layer thickness — 50 µm, geometry accuracy — up to 100 µm;
✅ Debinding in a separate furnace to prevent the blank from cracking;
✅ Sintering at 1500 °C, shrinkage 20–22% calculated by modeling in advance;
✅ Grinding and polishing to a mirror finish;
✅ 3D scanner control with metrological verification.
