Apple TV is developing a series based on Colson Whitehead's Harlem trilogy

Apple TV has acquired the rights to adapt the crime trilogy by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Colson Whitehead — the series is in early development.

The basis will be three novels:

👉 Harlem Shuffle (2021)

👉 Crook Manifesto (2023)

👉 Cool Machine — a fresh novel released on July 21, 2026, and already included in Barack Obama's summer reading list

The trilogy is set in New York and spans from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Who's on the team:

The script is being adapted by Graham Yost (Silo) and Arik Avelino (Animal Kingdom). Executive producers include director Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, Mufasa), Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak from the production company Pastel, Melissa Bernstein (Breaking Bad) from Special Interests, and Whitehead himself.
