The series is based on Adam Nevill's novel 'Last Days'. The lead character, Rose, will be played by Caitriona Balfe ('Outlander') — an uncompromising documentary journalist and recently divorced mother who masterfully uncovers others' secrets but can't sort out her own.
Rose takes on a project about a mysterious 20th-century cult — the 'Church of Ascension' — and initially finds unexpected solace in its teachings. But soon she discovers something far more sinister hidden behind the facade of faith.

— Alfonso Cuarón is writing the script with his brother Carlos Cuarón, as well as Natalie Erica James and Christian White
— James and White are showrunners, and James will also be the lead director
— All four are executive producers, alongside Balfe herself
— The project comes under Cuarón's Esperanto Filmoj banner (the studio has an exclusive deal with Apple) in co-production with Anonymous Content and Apple Studios
This is Cuarón's second series for Apple TV+, and also Balfe's second project with the streamer: the actress previously joined the cast of the film 'Tenzing'.
