Sheru and His Ways of Surviving in This Hostile World

Who do we have here? A person (sorry, a gorgemon) who has learned well how to survive in a world that is not too kind to his kind. He reacts very quickly to a threat and prefers to do everything in advance to avoid bringing the situation to the point where it becomes dangerous for him. So if there is an opportunity to step back, hide, or simply not get involved with trouble, Sheru will rather take that opportunity than play the hero. And if someone still tries to accuse him of something, then a completely different story begins: he will prove his innocence to the last, because he perfectly understands how easily, in his case, someone else's suspicion can turn into real problems. Gorgemons, as is known, are always to blame for everything.

And what is especially unpleasant is that physically Sheru is the strongest in the shelter after Brett. Only Brett can use his strength completely calmly: he is a beastmorph, and his physical power is perceived as a normal part of his nature. But Sheru is a gorgemon, so everything is different with him. If he seriously uses force and accidentally harms someone, the consequences can be very serious for him. It turns out to be a paradox: he is able to protect himself better than many, but it is he who is least allowed to use this ability — in the end, this makes him damn vulnerable. Hence his constant readiness for a threat: it is easier to notice the danger in advance and remove himself from it than to deal with the consequences later.

Moreover, he has never taken on his true gorgemon form. It is forbidden, and he himself does not know how it is done. That is, he does not even fully know his own nature and, in fact, has lived his whole life with the belief that it is something forbidden, scary, dangerous. Therefore, it must never be shown; on the contrary, one must hide as much as possible.

But emotionally, Sheru is not cautious at all. He is lively, hot-tempered, talks a lot, directly expresses his opinion, is sarcastic, jokes, and can react very violently to what is happening. And it is here that his humor becomes one of his survival methods. He can turn an unpleasant situation into a joke, make a snide remark, grin — not because he really finds everything funny, but because it is much easier to get through what is happening. For Sheru, this is psychological armor. And under this armor, it is very easy not to notice how vulnerable, kind, and lonely he is. His predatory smiles and mischievousness can create the impression that we are facing a little imp that nothing can touch, although in reality he takes a lot to heart. It is just that showing it directly is much scarier than joking it off. And in general, it is hard for him to let anyone into his soul. Take the album, for example: he perceives his drawings as something truly personal, and showing them to everyone? No way)

In short, his survival methods are quite different, but they all work toward one thing: to remain himself and at the same time not let the surrounding world hurt him. He tries to avoid physical danger, tries to defend himself against injustice, releases tension through humor, and keeps the most personal to himself, pouring out his experiences on paper.

But next to the guys, Sheru can at least sometimes turn off the constant readiness mode. Especially next to Dominic, who with his presence manages to create the feeling that right now everything is fine and nothing bad will happen. But it is not only Dom's calmness that relaxes him. With Aidan, he also feels calmer. Although, it would seem, these two do nothing but bicker lol. But it is in these squabbles that Sheru gradually releases tension: he does not need to be careful, choose his words, or constantly think about the consequences — he can just snap back, tease in response, and get the same kind of jab back. At some point, their quarrels themselves turn into friendly banter, and it seems they do not even notice how much it helps both of them. And Madelaine's attic is a place where Sheru can physically relax: calmly draw, do his own things, and not expect that hooligans will show up or some crap will happen. In the end, these three give him what he lacks most: a kind of refuge where he can briefly stop surviving and just live. And Sheru appreciates that damn much, he just has not yet dared to say it openly)
