Friday Self-Praise: Signed the Contract a Day Before the Deadline)) 😎

Ten apartments, tourist hell with prices, and suddenly fluent English. How are they connected? Read on.

This week I barely worked on Data Noir. The computer is disassembled and packed in suitcases; it was impossible to take the bulky system unit when moving.

Instead, I was heavily focused on finding housing. It's tourist season in Da Nang now, and that's a challenging task: prices are 30-50% higher than usual, few available listings, mostly old houses, and even if you find something, it might be snatched away from under your nose.

After a dozen viewings, I found an apartment near the kindergarten, in a new building, with comfortable conditions. Today I signed the documents, literally a day before the hotel rental ends. That's the reason for self-praise 🎉

A separate win this week: new acquaintances with people from England, Canada, and Russia at the hotel. It turned out that living in a hotel during peak tourist season is a great opportunity to learn every day how people live in other countries, and also to practice the language.

On the first day in Da Nang, I knew I should respond in English, but out of habit I slipped into Russian. After a few days of live communication with foreigners, I now speak and understand English comfortably 💪

And this is despite the week being busy: work continues in the background on two major work projects, corporate data warehouses, and setting up monitoring for medical systems. Honestly, the timing for the launch is not the most convenient, but that's how it turned out. Once the projects are closed, they might make for an interesting separate article.
