I have my own favorite in the world of audiobooks. A narrator whose voice has become the standard for me, whose intonations perfectly fit the text and create an ideal atmosphere. But just look at the reviews, and a different reality emerges. Critics and listeners unanimously claim that there is another one — more expressive, deeper, more "correct."
I deliberately do not name names. Names are secondary here. What matters is something else: why do we so often allow others' opinions to dictate what should delight us? The art of reading is not mathematics, where there is only one correct answer. It is a personal, almost intimate dialogue between a voice and a listener.
