✨ India Overtook the US? The Country Ranking by Number of Universities Will Surprise You

Want to guess which country has the most universities? If you thought of the US - nope! According to 2023 data, the absolute leader is India with a whopping 5,349 institutions.

That's almost twice as many as Indonesia (3,277), which took second place. The US rounded out the top three with 3,180 universities. China, Brazil, and Mexico also made the top 10.

But the most interesting part comes next: for example, Canada has only 383 universities (fewer than Nigeria or the Philippines), and Turkey has just 209.
The term "university" can mean different things. In some places, it's a huge research center with thousands of professors; in others, it's a small college that issues diplomas.

🔥 For instance, the US has only 3,180 universities, but over a hundred of them are in the global top 500. In India, out of 5,000, only a handful are truly known outside the country.
