I came across Tina's post about the 8-hour workday for managers. And... why isn't anyone talking about this?
While reading, I realized that I've never worked 8 hours. It was always either much more or much less. Although it's more about attitude.
For example, if I wake up at 8 AM and lie in bed checking messages (yes, at 8 AM I often have unread ones), does that count as work time? Or if someone calls me during dinner and wants something—do those 10 minutes count as work?
And it's like that all the time!
Anyway, I want to add to Tina's advice:
— Hour-long calls are usually unnecessary. 15 minutes is fine, 10 minutes is good. Where you can avoid a call, avoid it.
— The calendar isn't rubber; don't cram 400 tasks into it. Although, I confess, I currently have 27 "tails" accumulated and can't seem to distribute them. So every day I have my usual three tasks plus 27 old ones.
— Empty windows are definitely needed! For me, it's going to the store. I try to go to the store every day. It's literally a ritual I came up with once, and it works. And I buy just enough so that I have to go again tomorrow.
— You must check off tasks. I used to underestimate this feature and only did tasks that weren't on the calendar. But now I even put small tasks on the calendar and get a little dopamine when I check them off (Singularity is great, by the way). And how does this help avoid working 18 hours? Very simple: at some point, you can look at the list of completed tasks and think, "Okay, I've worked enough, no need to push myself further, time to sleep." Or something like that.
Like if you want more of my posts on management))) and also subscribe to Tina, she talks sense in that direction too.
