Scientists found a species of ant Temnothorax kinomurai where the entire colony consists of queens. There are no workers or males. Such colonies survive through parasitism. The queens capture other ant nests, force the workers to kill their own queen, and then the same workers raise the offspring of the invaders. This is the first known ant species to completely abandon the worker caste.
