A fire and tactical exercise was held at the 'Rus' shopping center in Veliky Novgorod. According to the scenario, a fire started in a grocery store. Visitors and employees evacuated, but one person could not get out on their own.

Firefighters arrived and conducted reconnaissance using gas and smoke protection units. The 'victim' was brought to fresh air through a rescue device. There was also a report that someone might be on the roof. Firefighters climbed an aerial ladder and checked the roof, but the information was not confirmed.

The fire source was found, and the simulated fire was extinguished. The exercise involved 30 personnel and seven units of equipment. The Ministry of Emergency Situations added that such drills in high-traffic areas are held regularly to better understand the response area and building features, and to maintain communication with facility management.
