New Yorkers are paid $45 per hour, about 3500 rubles, for clearing snow from drifts. The city was hit by a heavy snowfall, schools and some institutions were closed. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani promised such payment to everyone who takes a shovel and goes outside to quickly return the city to normal life. So many people came that some just stood with a shovel next to the snow, and one small pile was cleared by 5–10 people. Meanwhile, many are clearing snow for free.
