Secrid Slimwallet Wallet

It might seem like this is a blog about pop culture. Yes, but not entirely. From the very beginning, I planned to write about other things too—for example, about things in the literal sense. Objects. Items. Artifacts of material culture. Like now. 

I just don't want to do it in the format of a digest "look what I found on Bag&Wallet" and write about everything. I want to talk about truly cool things that have improved my quality of life to some extent. Like Whoop, for example. Today is just such a thing.

There's never enough space in pants pockets. And if I can afford to stash a lighter, cigarettes, vapes, and even keys in back pockets and a backpack, then my phone and wallet absolutely must be in the side pockets. My inner paranoid screams in horror when I see a person with half a phone sticking out of one back pocket of their jeans and a third of a wallet from the other.

An unexpected comfort for my inner paranoid was the Secrid Slimwallet—super compact, doesn't deform or tear pockets, holds 6-7 cards and even a few bills (though honestly, when was the last time you used cash?). The main compartment is a fairly standard metal cardholder with RFID protection and a mechanism that fans out the cards like a staircase; another couple of cards can be placed in the pockets. 

There's a Miniwallet version with a snap button closure, but it looks a bit tacky to my taste—it loses that laconic minimalism. Plus, it's more convenient to use when the flap pocket has no fasteners: I usually keep my work access card there, and when traveling, a hotel key card, and they work better if you tap the wallet not as a whole but with the flap pocket flipped open.

I felt a bit sad when I moved to another office—this building hasn't had electronic locks installed yet, so a mechanical key for the office was added to the access card. I tried carrying it in a key case, but that completely broke my pattern where everything I need to get to work is where? Right, in my pants side pocket.

But oh my, Secrid had a solution for this too—a separate coin module that fits into the wallet's pocket. The key fit perfectly. Look, it goes in and out.

Of course, after four years of active use, the textile covering with a trendy "carbon fiber" effect has worn out and doesn't look as fresh. But the Secrid Slimwallet can only be replaced by another Secrid Slimwallet, this time in beautiful dark blue leather. It's one of those cases where the best upgrade is no upgrade.
