In just about three years, we will mark the 70th anniversary of an event that changed the modern natural gas market. On January 25, 1959, the world's first LNG carrier, Methane Pioneer, set off on its maiden voyage (after being converted from a tanker to an LNG carrier) from Louisiana, where the world's first natural gas liquefaction plant was built on the Calcasieu River, to Canvey Island, located 50 km from London, one of the historical centers of British petrochemical industry.
