In Iranian philately after 1979, one recurring motif is martyrdom in a religious-political context. Of course, this motif appeared on Iranian stamps even before the Islamic Revolution, but it was only after it that it became a true reflection of Tehran's official discourse. It is worth noting that similar motifs are also found on stamps of other Muslim countries, such as Bangladesh, Yemen, and, of course, Iraq.
The motif of martyrdom on Iranian stamps peaked towards the end of the 1980s, right at the end of the 8-year Iran-Iraq war. For example, in 1988, 28 stamps out of the annual set of 88 were dedicated to martyrs who died in various rebellions, uprisings, revolutions, and wars, not only directly involving Iran but also Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and other countries.
