Even longer burned the neighboring platforms, which were also raided by Iraqi aviation in March 1983, this time by combat helicopters. Both platforms, of course, caught fire, and the oil slick was formed as a result of the daily release of about 700 (and by maximum estimates up to 1000-2000) tons of oil from the mouths of three wells serviced by platform No. 5, and at least one well whose production was carried out on platform No. 9. Two years later, in May 1985, when the daily flow rate dropped to two hundred tons, the well was successfully capped thanks to a unique operation carried out by Iranian divers. There were casualties here as well; nine people died during the operation.
