After the siege of Abadan was broken, the city remained a front-line city. Fighting in the region continued for several more years, and the city itself was repeatedly subjected to missile strikes and artillery shelling. Nevertheless, Iraq's strategic goal—to capture the oil center and disable a key part of Iran's oil infrastructure—was never achieved.
