Microsoft has released a public preview of DirectStorage 1.4 technology. Now PC games should run even faster.

DirectStorage compresses data, reduces load on SSDs to make gaming smoother. The main feature of the new version is support for Zstandard - a lossless compression algorithm.
This will increase compression ratio, reducing loading times and speeding up processing of game resources, and thus the FPS counter.

AMD and NVIDIA will release new drivers in the second half of 2026, Intel in the coming months, and Qualcomm by the end of the year.
