Every time a startup obsesses over design details, button colors, etc., instead of focusing on the value it brings to the user (and it's almost never about the beauty of the website/app design), I remember Craigslist - a site that hasn't updated its design in about 30 years, yet gets 300-400 million visits per month, and while earnings data isn't public, as of 2017 it was around $700 million, now around $500 million per year.

So every time someone goes to one of my startup's websites and says that making it prettier will increase sales - I politely thank them, but of course I don't rush to redo anything.

And now a test exercise - open SimilarWeb or any statistics site, find the top 10, and look at the design of these resources without content, just remove all content from the screenshot in Paint. Is there really any beautiful design there?
