China has issued the world's first approval for commercial use of an implantable brain-computer interface.

The coin-sized device from Neuracle Medical Technology is placed on the surface of the cerebral cortex without penetrating the tissue, reducing the risk of damage.

The implant reads neural signals, converts them into digital commands, and allows control of prosthetics and external manipulators.

The technology is intended for patients with spinal cord injuries, paralysis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and stroke sequelae.

In the future, such systems could help restore not only movement but also speech, vision, and other functions.
This is a fundamentally different approach. Epidural implants (like Neuracle's) do not damage neurons, are easier to remove, and cause fewer immune reactions.

However, the signal from the cortical surface is weaker and less detailed. Invasive chips (like Neuralink's) provide more precise control, but the risk of rejection and brain damage is higher.
