Standard Oil was the pioneer here as well, taking as a basis solutions that had already been encountered in Europe (the appearance of the barrel for transporting glycerin would also inspire Nellie Bly, about whom a little later). The idea was to create metal barrels from riveted metal sheets, which were then shaped into the form of a traditional wooden barrel using a special machine. The first such barrel appeared on the market in 1902. Well, the problem of durability and strength was solved, but what to do about the lack of tightness?
