Everyone is discussing the best niches for a startup. But we're not here for hype, so let's go against the trend and discuss the worst one.

The worst idea for a startup is a musical group. Yes, a musical group is a startup. The business model is unclear, you need to find people and persuade them to work with you for a bright future, you need to sell the product, release it, do marketing, etc.

Well, in general, let's consider why this is the worst niche. There is a lot of inertia here, i.e., listeners don't want to look for something new and update their playlist. They do it reluctantly. And if they do, a second factor appears. The competition is huge - tens of thousands of new compositions appear every day. At the same time, products in the music industry become obsolete very slowly. People actively listen to what was written 350 years ago, for example Bach (over a million listeners on Yandex.Music per month), not to mention the younger Beatles. And even if you somehow miraculously persuade 1000 people to listen to your track on a streaming platform, you'll get about 58 cents from that.

Sales are bad, but what about production? You need to invest a lot of time in learning musical instruments, assemble a group and write songs, rehearse, allocate money for recording and preparation for publication. That is, a couple of years before MVP. Long? That's still fast.

The niche is complicated by very difficult export, risks both with the state and with human rights organizations, since images and texts may not be liked by everyone.

And what do you think is the worst niche for a business?
