How to Choose a Resort Island in the Maldives When Traveling with Children🏝

An unexpected fact about me: I have never been to the Maldives, but this country is one of the top destinations on my travel wish list.
🤔And what holds me back is not so much the cost (there are tours for different budgets now), but the long journey.


✈️ First, the flight from St. Petersburg takes about 10 hours (even longer with a layover). Direct flights from the Northern capital are not available year-round — you'll have a layover in Moscow or need to drive or take a train to Moscow.

🚤 Second, then there's a speedboat and/or seaplane. This transport depends on weather conditions and operates only during daylight hours. So you also need to choose a flight that arrives in Male in the morning or afternoon, otherwise you'll have to stay overnight somewhere near the airport.

🏖️ Third, if you choose an island close to Male with minimal speedboat transfer, you might lose that sense of seclusion, as the capital of the Maldives will be visible.

Therefore, if you want to go to the islands with children, choose your hotel carefully.

➡️ And one more thing: choosing the villa. If the child is small, only a beach villa will do. For a water villa, they might either not let you stay or make you sign a document stating that you take full responsibility for safety.
