Usually I don't shoot films the way we watch them, but by distributing scenes the way it's convenient to shoot, for example, first all scenes in one city, then in another, even if I have to shoot the middle and ending first, and then the beginning. Stanley Kubrick wanted to shoot "The Shining" differently, in chronological order. Therefore, absolutely all filming locations and sets made for the film had to be available for shooting at any time. So all the soundstages of Elstree Studios were occupied only by the sets of "The Shining". When the filming process was nearing its end, the studio began shooting the fifth part of the "Star Wars" saga, "The Empire Strikes Back", and the artificial mountain snow that covered the Overlook Hotel was later used for filming episodes on the planet Hoth.
