What can Russian neural networks do? What can we count on if everything collapses?

From time to time I check what's up with GigaChat and Alice. Today is one of those days.

Our neural networks are developing in big leaps. The functions I need are not yet available, but I notice interesting trends. Sharing my observations:

🧠 Alice's research focuses on authoritative sources. She's all like — read this excerpt from a scientist's study, refer to the library and such-and-such department. While foreign networks try to maximize the imprint of fresh information, Alice goes into the professional realm.

📄 GigaChat has an interesting text editor. A nice logic — you open a document, give a task to write something, and get a finished document. Unfortunately, it still handles editing an existing document very poorly: it can only check errors, translate, and work through a command window with some specific edits. But there is an interesting perspective there. It can't make presentations yet.

🙊 GigaChat now has a full voice mode, very pleasant. It's like Character, but without a character and with a limited set of voices. You press a button on your phone and call your neural network, ask it to explain something, and it immediately explains by voice. I had a financial advisor like that made on Character. If they later add the ability to give them personalities, it will be fire.

📢 Alice now has a live mode with voice. You turn on the camera on your phone and show something, you can immediately discuss it by voice with Alice, and she will explain it to you (this is a paid feature, available in Alice Pro).

Well, I never doubted our speech recognition and computer vision technologies — Alice works great as a smart speaker, and there are plenty of laudatory articles about Sber's vision tools.

For now, all this is still of little use in business: few agents, no work with projects and a specific list of files in them, for example. And many things are missing.

Have Alice and GigaChat really taken the position of serious researchers? We'll live and see. Thank you for at least developing.
