Everything best that surrounds us was created by people who wanted to make money on it!
In this logic, money does not "spoil the idea" but turns it into a product: scales it, makes it cheaper, brings it to convenience and quality.
Now let's imagine polymers.
They were not "discovered" at one moment — they were learned to understand and control when chemists realized: long molecular chains can be designed for a specific task.
Of course, the first mass application was not about the market: replacing expensive and scarce natural materials (bone, silk, rubber) with a predictable, cheap, and reproducible alternative — and making money on scale.
