On the wave of this inspiration in the early 2010s, a whole galaxy of ambitious startups emerged, the loudest of which was Planetary Resources, backed by James Cameron and Larry Page. Lewis's ideas seemed about to materialize: companies promised to soon launch telescopes and reconnaissance probes. However, by the end of the 2010s, the "bubble" burst. Planetary Resources was sold to a blockchain company and completely shut down its geological projects (but even here there was a positive moment – all of the company's intellectual property was made public by the new owners); Deep Space Industries came under the wing of a manufacturer of space components; and Shackleton Energy's crowdfunding brought in only $6,000 of the required $1.2 million, and the company disappeared into oblivion without fulfilling any of its publicly made promises. The era of romantic visionaries, relying on Lewis's book, ended, colliding with harsh economic reality and too long a payback horizon for investors.
