Apple Original Films has confirmed the casting: Brian Tyree Henry joins the film "Running" — a sports drama directed by Gavin O'Connor ("Warrior"). His on-screen partner will be British actor Spike Fearn ("Alien: Romulus").
The plot follows a homeless high school student — a talented runner who uses his gift to escape his past and find a family. O'Connor described the idea as follows:
"I started thinking about a guy who has no place in the world. No love. No friends. No family. The only home is the street."
The screenplay is written by Bill Dubuque — the same one who worked with O'Connor on "The Accountant 2", which became the second most-watched film in Amazon MGM Streaming history. Production is handled by Apple Studios, Makeready, and… Nike.
For Henry, this is already his third collaboration with Apple:
— "Causeway" → Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor
— "Dope Thief" → Emmy nomination for Best Actor in a Limited Series
— "Running" → continued trust from the platform in the actor
The release date has not yet been announced.
