I love watching random movies that aren't well-known. Especially when they turn out to be pleasant surprises.
Yesterday I watched "Again and Again", a notable mix of road movie, sci-fi about parallel universes, a film about a maniac and bloody revenge.
It is notable not only for its moderately successful combination of such unlikely genres, but also for how deftly it switches registers from bloody carnage (here they burn alive, blow out brains, inflict a bunch of stab wounds, etc.) to poignant sentimentality and the relationship between two lost souls.
The film turned out to be dynamic, brutal, and at the same time heartfelt. And the ending for such a story turned out to be wonderful. In short, a non-obvious recommendation from me if you don't want to watch something mainstream.
